JPO is a test for Gonzi

It is now confirmed that JPO lied to the PM, his party and to the nation. He made a fool of those who defended him and the electorate. If the PM has any guts he should fire JPO and face the consequences. How can anyone run a Government and the nation on the support of a proven liar?

It can go both ways... in a way a huge mess with JPO can be problematic so early in the administration. Gonzi can sack JPO from PN - but only JPO can renounce his seat. He can be a thorn in PN's backside.

However I think this scenario is highly unlikely. I think JPO will be forgiven but he won't be given any ministerial post. And he'll spend the next few years in the back benches... it's what always happens

Well that proves my point. I know the implications of a sacking and that is why Gonzi will not sack him.

In ordinary circumstances, if an employee is caught lying and making a fool of his boss he would be fired without a second thought. That is why Gonzi is now lacking in guts to do the right thing. Gonzi's Government will be propped by a discredited liar. David Cameron recently removed the whip from an MP who was caught paying a salary to his son for doing nothing.
